Goa Shivir 2014 (English)

Day 5

Namah shivay! Garba festival came in early for the 3000-odd sadhaks sitting in the K K Birla Auditoium in BITS, Pilani campus on the last day of the Goa shivir (English) on Tuesday which saw Baba ji, Guru Ma, Ishan ji, Geetanjali ji, Kavita Ji and all the sadhaks in total dancing mode.

The hall became one big dance floor in the last session with a succession of peppy divine numbers being sung by a choir of 30 Indian expatriate sadhaks representing various countries. From Punjabi 'Mata ki bhentein' to Gujarati Navratra bhajans, all were belted out with extreme passion and vigour.

If in the morning the sadhaks witnessed the dance of the Kundalini through a very deep healing meditation of 2 hours, the afternoon was reserved for a veritable Dandiya Raas. And did the sadhaks enjoy or what. The dancing fever spread so far & wide that by the end of it all, no one was sitting on their seats.

Young and old, male and female, married & unmarried, Indians & foreigners, all were either near the stage, oscillating up & down in rhythmic movements, in Garba circles or standing before their seats, clapping, cheering, pirouetting & having the time of their lives.

Baba ji's damroo came out for the second time in Goa to enliven the party.
Ishan ji along with his sister Geetanjali ji and spouse Kavita ji too plunged in the special moment with energetic claps, smiles, sporadic bursts of laughter & reluctant prancing.

If the Guru himself is such a "bindass" or happy-go-lucky soul, the disciples are bound to enjoy this liberation to enjoy life like there is no tomorrow.

So when a moving toy car, shot free by Ishan ji, wheeled between Baba ji's holy feet, everyone had a good laugh. And when Ishan ji drew near Baba ji's seat to retrieve the car, even as he was singing Satanam Shree Wahe Guru, Baba ji too laughed aloud with the sadhaks.

Angry bird toys, and moving toy cars were all crawling on the stage. And Baba ji cherishing every single moment like a small innocent baby.

Such and much much more fun proved to be a fitting finale to the fascinating few weeks of the 2014 Shiv Yog summer in Goa.

What can words do to describe the stupendous 2 weeks in Goa. Words are insufficient.

Pictures may reveal more but, they too like words, have their limitations especially when revealing the divine antics of Baba ji.

Moments with Baba ji automatically assume a certain sense of transcendence which cross the realms of narration either through written or spoken words. And even photos and videos fail to fully capture Baba ji's acts of divine brilliance. They can only give it a good enough try.

Teachings in a nutshell. For the one last time from Goa in 2014.

Baba ji emphasized a great deal on the need to go closer to nature. He said, "On weekdays we twiddle our fingers and are glued undividedly to our laptops. On weekends, we twiddle our fingers again. This time on the remote control of the television, to which we are hooked on and booked off for the whole day."

He added: "To thoroughly unwind, you must switch off digitally. One day, just keep it as 'me time' ."

In the one day devoted entirely to yourself, do these things:
1) Keep the cell phone switched off.
2) Visit a natural place – a river, a garden, a forest, a sanctuary, a mountain range. Feel the trees, the air, the sunshine, the water, the clouds.
3) Try eating only raw fruits throughout the day.
4) Be with the family.

Benefits of reserving a day for yourself in this manner:
1) Enhances longevity.
2) Rejuvenation of all the cells of the body.
3) Energy level and functioning of various organs significantly change in the right direction.
4) Ageing does not affect work capacity.
5) Rapid increase in work efficiency.
6) Improved temperament.
7) More patience, tolerance and will to enjoy life.
8) Rise in self-confidence, self esteem and improvement in relationship with others.
9) Freedom from being imprisoned in a fixed, boring and monotonous lifestyle of all work and no play in reality (TV viewing or digital unwinding is not counted as rest).

Baba ji further stated that from nature we learn so much. The biggest teaching from it being the idea of absolute freedom as birds and animals show. “You will not any bird or animal tensed, worried, stressed out and to overcome such stress, resorting to smoking, drinking and drugs. This is so because they flow with nature. Fixed routine - fixed waking up time, fixed sleeping time, fixed eating time. We too must bring a sense of rhythm in our lives. Time-table for meditation, for sleeping, for eating so on and so forth.”

Today that the people of the cities have become so weak in comparison to those in the villages is a pointer to the fact that the people in the cities have drifted from nature. And as one distance oneself from nature, the cells of the body begin to weaken. “Work full throttle when at your professional desk but when you are off it, you must learn to switch off completely,” said Baba ji.

Issuing a strict advisory against alcoholism, Baba ji contended, “I have not forbid Shiv Yogis from having any kind of food or drinks. But I plead and request all Shiv Yogis to please follow at least one rule in life very very strictly. SAY NO TO ALCOHOL, SMOKING AND DRUGS.”
